Three themes have trailed my life and career. First and foremost, curiosity is a consistent theme. My first field of study was earning a Bachelor's of Science in Chemistry and working for nearly a decade as an analytical chemist. The second field was achieving rabbinic ordination through Hebrew Union College. These two careers are not as divergent as one might think because I believe that science and religion are quite similar: while each discipline specializes in its own set of questions, both seek to explain the world.

Secondly, community is another theme. I have been the rabbi in Hendersonville, NC, at Agudas Israel Synagogue since ordination in 2015. Beyond the pulpit and classroom, I am frequently found around town teaching and preaching at local churches, and volunteering with local non-profit organizations. In addition to interfaith dialoguing, I believe in interfaith doing. Working and volunteering for our community is key, and as such, I am the Immediate Past President of the Interfaith Assistance Ministries.

Finally, blending topics is a final theme. A large focus of my rabbinate explored and imparted the melding of Judaism and modernity, in addition to natural law and Jewish living.  Science and religion both inspire awe. As a 2017-2019 fellow with Sinai and Synapses and a current host of the podcast “Down the Wormhole” with other fellow alumni, we continue to bridge this gap between science and religion.

I am married to Danyul and we have an elementary-aged son, Adrian. In my spare time, I love to read, and watch Star Trek and Marvel Universe shows. I also love all things space including cross-stitching science into art, and other niche patterns.
